CMLL 3/2/2012 “Homenaje a Dos Leyendas" Review

Diamante Azul

 

1. Marcela vs. Ayumi [Lightning match] 

They exchange holds early and Marcela takes Ayumi down by the legs and puts her in a standing cangrejo and then pulls her down into a crossface variation that Ayumi reverses into a cradle for a two count. Up again, armdrag by Marcela, Ayumi pops up and gets an STO but then kips up and armdrags Marcela. Marcela pops up and rolls through on Ayumi and covers for two then locks on a stretch muffler but Ayumi gets the ropes. Stomps by Marcela, who then lifts Ayumi by the hair and sends her into the corner and charges after only to get taken down by a flying tijeras from Ayumi. Unsuccessful body block attempt by Marcela and Ayumi pounds her face into the mat then backs her into the corner and twists Marcela’s hair in her hand before using it to toss her across the ring. Classic schoolyard bully girl move right there. Marcela fires back and pulls Ayumi into a sweet double underhook quebradora. Marcela backs Ayumi into the corner and gets her revenge for the hair pulling by pulling on Ayumi’s hair and tossing her across the ring by it. Ayumi backs into the opposite corner and Marcela charges but gets nailed with a drop toe hold into the second turnbuckle, and Ayumi capitalizes and runs in with double knees to the face. Ayumi climbs up top and Marcela throws a right hand at her that she uses to give an armbar across the ring ropes that the ref breaks up. Ayumi goes up top and comes off with a big dropkick for a two count. She pulls Marcela up now but Marcela fights back and they exchange forearms in the middle of the ring, with Ayumi winning the exchange, knocking Marcela down. Ayumi runs to the ropes but Marcela cuts her off as soon as she turns around with a knee to the gut, then crosses to the other side and does the same thing, then hits a springboard double knee drop on Ayumi and covers for two. She takes her time to lift Ayumi and gets hit with a lungblower, then gets dropkicked out of the ring by Ayumi. Ayumi goes up top and hits a beautiful plancha suicida with big air. Back in the ring and a head-arm suplex by Ayumi followed by a nonchalant pinfall attempt with her just laid across Marcela gets a two count. Marcela is lifted again and Ayumi goes for a victory roll but she immediately reverses it into a german suplex for a two count. Now she lifts Ayumi with a pumphandle and drops her stomach first against her knee for a two count, ouch. Marcela goes up top but Ayumi comes after her, Marcela fights back and gives her a Michinoku driver off the second rope for the three count. Good match, these are two of the better luchadoras in CMLL and they had a fun match with a lot of cool moves to start the show with some excitement.

  

2. Averno, Mr. Aguila, Olímpico vs. Valiente, Brazo de Plata, Angel de Oro

Valiente and Olímpico start, exchange holds and Olímpico takes him down with a quick armdrag, then lock up again and Valiente rolls through and snapmares him down. Armdrag by Olímpico and they face off again and Valiente hits a leg takedown then another snapmare. Stand again, leg takedown by Olímpico followed by a roll through and a leg takedown by Valiente. Great exchange to start. Hammerlock by Olímpico, Valiente lifts up and snapmares him again and they roll out. Oro and Aguila in now, they each hit the ropes twice and then handspring off and face off again, Oro ducks a clothesline but then gets hit with a back elbow. Aguila lifts him and chops him hard in the chest then sends him off the ropes but Oro flips over and kicks him in the face then comes back in with a moonsault for two. Oro slides through Aguila’s legs when he stands a hits a great spinning tijeras that sends Aguila to the floor and then fakes a dive and poses as the fans cheer in approval. Averno and Super Porky in now and Averno basks in the crowd’s reaction to him like only he can and then chops Porky hard in the chest. Porky sends him off and Averno comes back with a shoulder block then goes off again and gets armdragged by Porky. Averno hits the ropes and gets armdragged again. He pops up and tries to backdrop Porky unsuccessfully, as if that would ever work on this planet, and Olímpico comes in to help but they get taken down with the headscissors/armdrag combo. Double chop from the two sends Porky down and Averno celebrates. They send Porky off the ropes and try to drop down but he just squashes them with a splash. Aguila boots Porky and poses only to get hit with a springboard armdrag by Oro, who then ducks a standing senton by Olímpico who is immediately hit with a quebradora by Valiente as the action moves quickly. Averno runs at Valiente in the corner but gets caught and placed on top by Valiente then nailed with a chop. Valiente springs Oro up to the top with Averno and then runs at Aguila who takes him down and hits a running shooting star while Averno nails a second rope Devil’s Wings for the three count on both men.

Second fall starts as both teams continue fighting and the rudos go three on one on Valiente in the corner then send him off the ropes and drop him out to the floor. They send Oro off the ropes now and Olímpico gives him the spinebuster then hits the running dropkick as his partners hold Oro on the apron and they crash to the floor. They send Porky off the ropes now and send him outside with the double boots and then fake a double tope spot and pose. The técnicos begin to fight back and Valiente ducks Olímpico and Averno and sends them into the corner and they get knocked down for a big splash in the corner from Porky. They fall to the outside and Valiente hits the incredible Valiente Special on Averno. Aguila fights back inside the ring and hits a tornillo suicida on Valiente, then Oro follows suit and hits a moonsault plancha suicida off the second turnbuckle to Aguila. Olímpico unwisely goes for a sunset flip inside on Porky but gets sat on for a two count. They lift Porky up for a double suplex and slam him down then Olímpico hits a springboard frog splash. All of them, including Mije, make the cover for the three and win the match. This match could have definitely gone on longer but it wasn’t bad by any means.

 

3. National Parejas Increíbles Tournament final: Rush and Terrible vs. Atlantis and Mr. Niebla

Niebla is dressed up like The Thing from Fantastic 4 complete with body paint. Terrible and Atlantis start and Terrible takes him down with a back elbow and Rush beats him down with forearms and a knee to the face. The two of them stand with their foot on Atlantis’ face as the ref tries his best to stop them. They then turn on the terrifying looking Mr. Niebla and beat him down in the corner then send him into the ropes. He ducks a clothesline from Rush only to get nailed with a dropkick by Terrible and falls outside. We see a distressed Zacarias on the outside, complete with Thing body makeup of his own, which is amazing in so many ways. They send Atlantis into the ropes now and Terrible drops down for Rush to nail him with a clothesline and then they hold him down and pull at his mask then back him into the corner and Rush crushes him with knees, then sends him to the other side and hits him with a huge clothesline. He whips Atlantis back to Terrible who spinebusters him and flips him up to Rush who hits the fireman’s carry driver for a three count. Niebla gets nailed with a suplex by Rush who then hits a standing double stomp, and Terrible comes off the top with a splash for the three count.

Second fall starts with Rush beating down Niebla on the ramp and Terrible in the ring with Atlantis. Rush backs Niebla against the new Arena Mexico barriers and chops him while Terrible has Atlantis’ head between the ropes and is pulling at his mask. The evil Rush throws Zacarias in the ring, who tries valiantly to fight back but gets pounded on the head by Rush and kicked right in the face as the fans lose it and Rush poses like a tremendous rudo. They continue beating down Atlantis now and punch him repeatedly against the ropes. They send him off the ropes, hit a double spinebuster, and each hit a standing cannonball senton. Niebla is in again but gets backed into the corner and spits in both of their faces as they beat him down and send him out to the fans’ disapproval. Atlantis gets nailed simultaneously with a kick to the chest and back from Terrible and Rush and they then back him into the corner again. Rush whips Terrible into the corner at Atlantis who reverses it into a quebradora con giro but is immediately dropkicked by Rush. A charging Niebla nails Rush with a clothesline and charges up, he’s sent into the corner by Terrible who charges at him but he moves out of the way sending Terrible outside and goes after him with moonsault plancha suicida. Atlantis lifts Rush with la Atlantida and he submits as the fans roar and they take the second fall.

Rush and Terrible regain their composure on the outside by shouting at fans as the third fall begins, and it degenerates into them shouting at teach other and pushing and shoving then going nose to nose. Rush climbs in the ring defiantly and charges at Niebla and they clothesline each other and no-sell. They take turns posing on the corner with Rush receiving the lion’s share of boos and Niebla getting the cheers. Niebla backs him into the corner and tees off with chops then Rush flips him and chops away. They yell YEAH when Niebla chops Rush and BOO when Rush chops Niebla and they go back and forth a few times and Niebla spits in his face then sends him outside with a big clothesline. Niebla and Terrible face off now and Terrible slams him with chops but Niebla no sells and poses defiantly. Terrible sends him to the ropes and drops for the back body drop but Niebla slaps him in the back of the head and gives him a kiss and Terrible is so offended that he turns to leave. Rush stops him and they argue again as the fans go wild and they each push each other a few times until Terrible decides to go back to the ring. Terrible goes for a handshake but Atlantis waves it off and they have a chop exchange. Atlantis hits the ropes, ducks a clothesline and hits a running plancha for a two count that Terrible breaks up. Rush and Terrible back Atlantis into the corner and chop him hard, then Rush goes to whip him to the other side but Atlantis reverses it. Atlantis charges and Rush dumps him out but Atlantis climbs up top and hits a plancha diva on Terrible. Rush tries to cannonball senton Atlantis, but he moves and Rush lands on his partner. Atlantis hits a quebradora con giro on Rush then Terrible, then pulls Terrible up by his hair and tosses him across the ring with it. Terrible slides out in protest and stays there as Rush comes in to face Niebla. Running dropkick by Rush sends Niebla down, and now he and Terrible send Niebla into the corner with chops. Fireman’s carry slam by Terrible and Rush comes off the second rope with a double stomp. Atlantis runs in, takes down Terrible with a dropkick, bodyslams Rush, but is then overwhelmed by the two. They send him into the ropes and Rush takes him down with a back elbow. Wheelbarrow lift by Terrible, Rush goes for a lungblower but they botch it and the crowd gets all over them. Terrible holds Atlantis across his knees and Rush double stomps him and then covers him for the weirdest three count of all time by Tirantes that even the announcers point out. Niebla ducks a double clothesline and then takes them down with a both arm clothesline then dances around and spits in the air and catches it. Rush and Terrible beat him down again and Rush holds him from behind as Terrible hits both ropes for a running dropkick but Niebla slides away and he nails Rush who flies out of the ring. Terrible takes Niebla down with a clothesline and hits the ropes but gets tripped up by Rush who has finally had enough of his parejas increíbles partner, which is a shame because they make a great team, and Niebla cradles Terrible for a three count.

Rush runs back in the ring and takes down Niebla then hits him with a back suplex. He hits the ropes but gets tripped up by Terrible. He should have seen that one coming, really. Rush gets distracted long enough by him for Niebla to slam him with a spinebuster and then locks him in la Nieblina and Rush submits to give the team of Atlantis and Mr. Niebla the tournament win. Afterwards the winners celebrate and dance with Zacarias and the edecanes. Rush gets on the microphone and tells Terrible that he will always be above him, and Terrible teases an apuestas match between the two. Pretty good match, even great at times, with Terrible and Rush being absolutely hateful rudos in every sense. Rush really excelled as a rudo, and I think he proved here that he could do pretty big things as one, especially in high profile matches like this. The crowd really got on him from the start and treated him like a star. Terrible was certainly awesome here too and has really stepped it up in my opinion since getting the Heavyweight title.

4. Diamante Azul, La Máscara, Marco Corleone vs. Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr.

This is Diamante Azul’s first match in front of the Arena Mexico crowd since changing to that gimmick from the Metro gimmick, which the announcers are openly acknowledging. The Diamante Azul gimmick is basically a rip-off of Blue Demon, and of course the fans realize that and do not care much for it. He starts out with Guerrero who takes him down out of a waistlock and applies a heel hook, then rolls it into an ankle lock which Azul rolls out of with a back somersault. They each trade a takedown and then stare off in the center of the ring and go for a test of strength. Guerrero goes behind with a wristlock and wrings his arm but Metro climbs out of it and reverses it into an armbar takedown. Metro gets rolled up by Guerrero for a pin but reverses it back into the armbar and stands up with it locked in, only to have Guerrero reverse it into an armdrag.  Azul then applies a series of wristlock transitions on Guerrero and armdrags him, sending him to the outside. Azul follows him outside as the fans seem to get behind him. Volador and Máscara climb in now with the fans going crazy when Volador jumps in first. Volador bows on one knee and extends his hand for a handshake, Máscara accepts, and Volador raises their hands together triumphantly. Volador immediately chops him hard across the chest like a true rudo, and they begin brawling. Volador jumps outside followed by Máscara as they continue trading punches, and immediately then jumps back in and cuts Máscara off on the apron before he can. Volador runs at Máscara now but Máscara hits an enziguri from the apron and comes off the top rope with a diving headscissors that sends Volador to the outside. Máscara goes for a dive, but Volador runs away, so he slides through and lands on his feet. Volador attempts to hit Máscara with a clothesline but it is ducked and Máscara gives him a quebradora con giro. Bucanero in the ring with Marco now who poses on the turnbuckle as the girls cheer only to get knocked to the mat by Rey. Rey comes off the ropes once with a clothesline that doesn’t move Marco and immediately goes for another one. This time Marco waits two seconds and then flies back comically and sarcastically then points and laughs at the weakness of Bucanero as the fans cheer. They cross the ropes and Rey goes for a running crossbody but Marco catches him, drops him to his feet, and punches him with a big left hand that makes Rey fall like a tree in the forest. Marco climbs to the ramp and sets up for Air Italia but Guerrero cuts him off with a clothesline when he turns around. Volador and Bucanero sends Azul over the top with a double clothesline and Volador unlaces his mask and starts tearing at it on the ramp. The rudos hold Corleone and Diamante together tied up in the ropes while Bucanero runs down the ramp and hits a leapfrog legdrop onto the two of them. Máscara makes a comeback on the inside and sends two of the rudos down with dropkicks, while Diamante Azul runs and dives off the ramp with a great tope con giro onto Volador. Inside, Bucanero runs at Máscara in the corner, who ducks and superkicks Guerrero and then takes down Bucanero and locks him in La Campana while Corleone comes flying out of nowhere with Air Italia for a great finish to the first fall.

Segunda caida begins with Bucanero and Máscara crossing the ropes quickly and Bucanero taking him down with a spear. Bucanero pops up and celebrates a little too long as Máscara recovers and runs at him and nails a quebradora con giro, then hits two more of them rapid fire and Bucanero bails out holding his back. Guerrero and Diamante in now and they have a long staredown as the fans cheer loudly. Finally, Diamante drops down as Guerrero runs past him and pops back up only to get nailed with a clothesline by Último.  They cross the ropes again and Guerrero goes for a back suplex that Azul flips out of and hits a headscissors that sends Guerrero to the floor.  Bucanero comes in running at Azul but gets nailed with a sweet high angle armdrag and falls outside as well. Volador runs in at Azul now and he crashes into the corner when Azul ducks. Azul gives him a monstrous monkey flip out of the corner to the complete opposite side of the ring then runs to the other side and does an even bigger one. Seriously the biggest monkey flip I’ve ever seen, Volador just flew across the ring. Volador stands into a fake right hand from Metro and an immediate European uppercut with the left hand. Volador tumbles out of the ring and Azul fakes a dive into a pose and the crowd responds with a mix of cheers and boos.  Bucanero and Corleone in now, they go for a test of strength but Bucanero just punches him in the gut. They trade punches now with Bucanero ducking a right from Marco and hitting him a few times, then going to duck the right again but Marco hesitates and then clobbers him with a right in a pretty funny spot. Bucanero attempts to irish whip Marco but he reverses it into a Russian legsweep. Guerrero runs in and cuts off Marco, knocking him into the corner and chopping away. Guerrero sends Marco into the opposite corner and rushes at him but Marco backdrops him to the apron and nails him with the left hand to knock him to the floor, then pulls him back to the apron by his mask and beal tosses him back into the ring. Los Guerreros cut him off as he poses for the female fans and whip him into the ropes. They shoulderblock him down to the outside and then Bucanero hits a Guerrero-assisted tope suicida on Marco. Inside, Guerrero sends Máscara into the corner and runs at him but Máscara backdrops him out, hits the ropes and hits a bullet tope suicida on Guerrero. Azul in with Volador now, who flies across the ring and handsprings off the ropes, then gives a spinning headscissors attempt to Azul who tosses him off and Volador lands on his feet. Volador springboards backwards into Azul who catches him for the german suplex and goes for it but Volador flips out, nearly landing on his head in a pretty scary moment. Volador pops right back up thankfully, though, and rips Diamante Azul’s mask off his head then hits him with a backcracker as he tries to hide his face. Volador goes for the cover but the referees DQ him for tearing off Azul’s mask and the técnicos take the second straight fall. Everyone looked good in this match with Volador Jr. being especially great as usual. Diamante Azul made a good effort here although it is clearly tough for him to get over with the crowd using this gimmick. He is a good enough worker that he may be able to transcend the stigma of having this sort of gimmick, although he has the potential to be a good enough worker it is frustrating that he is saddled with it. Time will tell if it works out.

  

 5. Cabellera contra cabellera: Blue Panther vs. Negro Casas

Casas doesn’t even get a chance to remove his denim vest before Panther jumps him and begins laying in punches. Casas knocks him away with a headbutt but Panther immediately wristlocks him and clotheslines him down followed by a series of kicks to the spine. Casas is up now and responds with a big slap across the face and repeated stiff kicks to the chest. These two show how to start off a true grudge match, just beating the crap out of each other. They trade more punches and finally Casas falls to the mat and Panther applies a chinlock. Casas struggles out of the chinlock and sends Panther into the corner and stomps away repeatedly and the camera zooms in showing repeated stiff kicks right to Panther’s face. Casas chops him a few more times then rushes in but Panther fires back with a clothesline and covers for two. Panther drags Casas to the corner and slams him face first against the turnbuckle and goes for a big elbow but Casas moves and pounds away with chops and punches, then boots Panther in the face hard again.  Negro backs up to the other corner and hits a huge diving dropkick against Panther’s face in the corner. Casas nonchalantly lifts Panther up but Panther applies a fujiwara armbar out of nowhere and Negro submits for the first fall.

Negro checks with the ringside doctor and complains about his arm as the second fall begins, then climbs in and is stomped by Panther who immediately goes after the same arm and tugs at it then slams it against the ropes. Panther kicks away at his arm as Negro holds it in pain and Panther grabs it and slams it across his own shoulder. Negro bails out and Panther follows him outside, continuing the beating and then sends Negro shoulder first into the ring post. He pulls Negro by the hair back into the ring and Negro manages to fight back with kicks to Panther’s chest. He takes a moment to recover then attempts to whip Panther but he reverses it into an armdrag on Casas. Panther goes for a cradle but Casas reverses it and locks in a stretch muffler on Panther. He kicks Panther hard in the chest as the fans begin to get behind the técnico and then kicks him down hard in the face and covers for two. Negro continues to work on the knee, as he lifts Panther by his leg and slams it against his own knee and then dropkicks him right in the knee right after. Negro then immediately hits La Casita and takes the second fall.

The third fall starts with Negro and Panther on the outside and Negro has his leg draped over a railing on the ramp and slams his bad knee against it then applies a leg lock against the railing until the ref breaks it up and slams his leg against it one more time for good measure. They work their way back to the ring with Negro walking with his arm around the ref’s shoulder and then climbing into the ring and laying his arms across the ropes laughing at Blue Panther struggling to stand on his bad knee. Panther slowly hobbles to his feet and Negro bounces around on both feet mocking him. Stuff like this is what makes Negro Casas such an all-time great rudo. Negro waits in the corner as Panther slowly walks towards him and dropkicks him in the knee for a two count. Negro immediately goes to work on Panther’s knee and strikes it again and again as Panther sells it perfectly as if he’s torn a ligament. Negro lifts Panther up for another kneebreaker but Panther reverses it into a small package for two. Panther stirs to his feet and Negro strikes but Panther reverses it into another small package for two and Negro reverses that into a crossface. They stir to their feet with Panther rolling out and Panther locks on an inverted gory special and walks with it, apparently feeling much better with his knee here, but Negro rolls it through for a victory roll. Panther reverses it into his own pin for a two count and they both slowly stir to their feet as the fans chant loudly for both. Sunset flip attempt by Negro and he takes him down now with a armscissors/facelock style hold and has him in the center of the ring in a dangerous hold. Panther slowly stands to break the hold and then crosses Negro’s arms in a cruz nipona style lock with Negro on one knee. Negro starts biting Panther’s arm to break the hold but no luck, and he finally stands and twists out of it then kicks Panther in the gut. Octopus hold locked on by Negro now who seems to have Panther in a bad spot. Negro lets up and delivers a huge knee to the gut and locks the hold back on again. Panther powers out of it again and goes for a hip toss that gets blocked by Negro, then tries again but gets it blocked for a second time. Panther holds him in this position in some sort of shoulder lock and the fans start to boo loudly for whatever reason, maybe because the hold looks terrible.  Big slaps to Panther’s chest by Negro who finally blocks it and tries to roll through into a double armbar that he eventually lets go of. They stand and chop each other a few times and hit each other at the same time with a clothesline but neither go down. Negro kicks him in the gut and pushes Panther into the ropes, and then goes for a running knee lift but Panther ducks and Negro bounces off to the mat. Panther lifts Negro up in the electric chair and drops him face first on the mat. He locks in la tapatía after a long struggle by Negro and the fans start to get loud again. Negro fights out and puts Panther in the STF but it gets broken up and then hits La Casita for two.

The two of them stand again and face off as the fans are getting pretty loud. Panther backs Negro into the corner and chops him then lifts him to the top rope. Negro blocks another chop and tries to do the hanging armbar but slips and lands on his feet on the outside, managing to pull that off a lot more smoothly than he really should have and has a huge grin on his face to show for it. Commercial break, back to Negro climbing in the ring and he covers Panther who is holding his arm for a two count. Negro locks on a cross armbreaker and Panther struggles before finally lifting him up out of it and powerbombing him into the corner. They stand onto the apron and negro kicks him a few times then goes back inside and locks on a sleeper hold over the ropes, then lets go as Panther collapses off the apron to the floor. Panther stirs to his feet outside and Negro dropkicks him from inside the ring. Panther sweeps Negro’s legs as he climbs out of the ring, then chops him as he is seated on the apron, and pulls him off to the floor with a fujiwara armbar takedown and they hit the ground hard. Panther climbs back in, runs off the ropes and hits a tope suicida on Negro but he slams shoulder first hard right into the new barricades. They both climb back into the ring at the same time and Negro climbs to his feet first. He grabs Panther for a Casita for another two and pleads with the ref afterwards. Panther and Negro stand at the same time now and Panther hits a double leg takedown and goes for a nudo but Negro clocks him in the head to break it up. Negro sets up for the lariat by stomping his feet and licking his arm like a maniac, then swings but Panther ducks and locks him in a leglock but slaps Negro in the face too many times and Negro locks him in a small package and both of their shoulders are down as the ref counts three. Panther is up and thinks he is victorious but the ref explains to him the circumstances. The announcers explain that in the situation of a draw in a lucha de apuestas match, both men lose and much have their heads shaved. Both men plead with the crowd and the referee for the match to continue as the CMLL officials (Panico and Commissioner Gustavo) come down to the ring and the announcer declares that the match is a draw and both men lose their hair. The replays show that both men had their shoulders down. Panther begins getting his hair cut and as it happens Negro kicks him down and walks away and is held back by the refs. After a show recap, we come back with both men being shaved. Panther gets on the microphone and says that he doesn’t agree with it being a draw, but that this is not the end of their feud, only the beginning. Negro laughs and tells him that of course the battle has just begun but reminds him that Panther didn’t win and they start to fight again but Panther knocks him down with a big right hand and sends Negro out as the officials break them up. Great main event, as these two really showcased a lot of their technical skills here and the match told a really good story that made a lot of sense for their feud. A draw continues their feud while also being a finish that the fans never saw coming but really were able to appreciate as both men ended up losing their hairs. The idea that Panther lost because he kept trying to slap Negro instead of applying the leglock is something that they can really build off of. This was definitely one of my favorite matches of the year so far in 2012.

Overview: Watch this show. The opener match between the girls was crisp and had the pace that an opener needed. The Parejas Increíbles final was awesome and Rush stood out as a star here working with Terrible. The semi-main trios match delivered everything you would it expect it to. Most of all, Blue Panther and Negro Casas had a top caliber match that had great storytelling and awesome wrestling but was different than everything else.

Jeff Lynch Mexico Tape #1 Part B (Sept. 1983) Review

1. Sangre Chicana vs. MS1 – Cabellera vs. Cabellera

MS1 unfortunately passed away recently, but it was great to see him on these DVDs doing such awesome work. From what I’ve seen he was truly one of the best rudos and overall workers of his generation in Mexico. Before the match even begins, MS1 attacks Sangre outside of the ring and slams his head against the apron. Highly concerned women at ringside crowd around Sangre and attempt to help him as MS1 lays into him with stomps. Fans are throwing trash at MS1 already as the ref tries to hold him back. Finally he climbs in the ring to gloat to the fans as the match announcements are being made and we see Sangre Chicana is bleeding from the top of his head all the way down his chest. MS1 climbs back out and keeps beating on Sangre. The ref tries to hold him back but MS1 keeps managing to run around him like a cartoon character and kick Sangre before the ref pulls him away. Women flock Sangre on the floor and fan him with their jackets to revive him as MS1 continues the assault into the crowd as Sangre does an awesome job of selling like he’s really hurting badly. MS1 picks him up in a fireman’s carry and dumps him into the ring, then hits a bodyslam and comes off the top with a flying headbutt for a three count to win the first fall. Sangre falls out of the ring and more concerned women sitting ringside help him. One of them wipes the blood off of his face as he sits on his knees, looking battered and exhausted.

MS1 climbs out and boots him in the face then throws him in the ring to begin the second fall. The fans are loudly chanting CHI-CA-NA as MS1 celebrates in the ring and continues to beat on him. Chicana is still bleeding heavily as MS1 pulls him up again but Chicana nails him with a left hand and the crowd goes wild, then hits him with two more that knocks him out of the ring and hits a tope to the outside in a really great sequence and the fans are chanting his name again. Chicana crawls into the ring as the ref counts out MS1 on the outside and wins the second fall by countout, having his hand raised in the middle of the ring while he’s covered in blood as MS1 lay on the outside.

Sangre climbs outside to meet MS1 to begin the third fall and slams MS1’s head directly into the apron in the same fashion that MS1 slammed his head into the apron in the first fall. MS1 comes up and is gushing blood out of his forehead and now both of them are just covered in blood and start brawling in the middle of the ring. MS1 goes for a big right but Sangre ducks and hits a huge left that sends him down. They stagger to their feet as the fans continue to chant Chicana and MS1 knocks him out with a shoulder block and follows it up with a huge tope. They crawl back into the ring and MS1 makes the cover but only gets two and the two of them stagger to their feet again, covered in blood. MS1 goes for an inside cradle but Sangre kicks out at two again. Standing back splash by MS1 for another two count and then he sends Sangre down with a right hand and hits a butterfly suplex for another two count. The mat is just covered in blood at this point. Right hand sends Sangre out again and MS1 hits another huge tope but Sangre moves and MS1 flies into the chairs. Back in the ring, the two of them rise slowly to their feet and Sangre hits a dropkick and then connects on a tope suicida and the crowd roars. Inside, Sangre covers for a two count and they stand again and MS1 hits a bodyslam and goes up top. Another headbutt attempt but Sangre slides away and MS1 lands splat from high in the air in a sick spot, and Sangre covers for another two. They grapple to their feet and MS1 hits another bodyslam and goes up top. MS1 comes off the top with a senton but Sangre moves again and applies a stretch muffler and the crowd roars in approval as MS1 submits and loses his cabellera rubia to a very bloody Sangre Chicana as Sangre’s mom looks on in approval from the audience, smoking a cigarette. MS1 tries to run away after the bell but Sangre runs him down and hits him with another big left hand and then holds him down as they cut his hair in the ring and shave him bald. This was a really awesome match for a ton of reasons, especially the crowd reactions and the crazy brawling.

2. Sangre Chicana/La Fiera/Mocho Cota vs. Infernales (MS1/El Satanico/El Espectro Jr. II)

The first shot of the footage from this match is MS1 standing in the ring with a smug look on his face and a freshly shaved bald head, just an awesome shot. He’s also got quite a snazzy sequined jacket too. Infernales jump the tecnicos on the outside and beat on them before the match even begins, what a bunch of bad guys. They beat down Sangre three on one and the fans desperately chant his name to fight back but he gets dumped to the outside with the rest. Back in the ring and a three on one on Sangre until the others come to break it up but get beat down as well. Everyone brawls together around the ring and Satanico stomps down Sangre in the middle of the ring. Los Infernales clear the ring again and stand down the tecnicos as they make their way back to the apron. More brawling and the rudos continue to beat down the tecnicos, with Mocho getting held down and stomped until Fiera runs in and gets beat down as well. Mocho, wearing bright banana yellow trunks, gets held up by Espectro while MS1 stomps him and the refs try to pull them apart while Espectro bites him on the forehead and busts him open. MS1 holds him up and punches him right in the forehead a few more times to open up the cut and now Cota is bleeding a lot and gets tossed outside of the ring and Satanico follows in pursuit. Brawling continues and the tecnicos start t fight back as the rowd goes crazy. Sangre and Cota double team Espectro while Fiera throws MS1 into the ring post outside and the tecnicos take over. Inside, Cota locks Espectro in a submission, something like a tirabuzón with Espectro in the seated position, and he submits. MS1 jumps in and starts brawling with Fiera but gets sent out again and the rudos triple team Satanico. They hold him in a standing armlock and he submits and the tecnicos take the fall while the ref checks Cota’s cuts. The rudos continue to fight and pull Fiera out of the ring, MS1 tries to bulldog him into the ring post but Fiera pushes him into it. Crazy brawling now and Sangre and MS1 are facing off in the center of the ring and brawl to the outside. All six men keep brawling around the ring and Cota gets Espectro down and starts tearing at his mask and Fiera backdrops MS1 and he goes splat on the ringside mats. The tecnicos keep beating down the rudos in a big way , and Satanico jumps in the ring and kicks Fiera with a low blow for the foul and the tecnicos win. Lots of crazy brawling in this match and more blood for the crazy people. Afterwards, Cota rips off Espectro’s mask and celebrates with it as they help Sangre Chicana up who is selling the beating.

3. NWA Middleweight Championship: El Satanico (C) vs. Lizmark

Long stand-off to start the match with each man tentatively trying to lock up with one another. Finally they lock up and Satanico wrenches at a side headlock but Lizmark hits a takedown and then locks him in an STF and they exchange holds and then stand up after a few. Lizmark rolls out of a pin attempt and then does an awesome cartwheel into single leg takedown that someone should definitely steal and use today. They stand again and Satanico hits an arm drag and holds on an armbar and hits an over the head armdrag. Back up again, Satanico takes down Lizmark and goes for a leglock but he reverses it into a crossface. To their feet again and they lock up but Satanico hits a hip toss, then up again but Lizmark hits a big dropkick that sends Satanico into the ropes. They trade holds for a little bit then criss cross the ropes and Lizmark goes for a moonsault off the top. Satanico moves, but Lizmark lands on his feet and armdrags him. They criss cross again, Lizmark armdrags him again and then hits a butterfly suplex with a big slam and pins him for three to take the first fall.

Second fall begins and Lizmark hits a drop toe hold and a couple strikes to the back of the head of Satanico then a somersault neckbreaker. Reverse chinlock by Lizmark on Satanico but he gets his foot on the ropes. Satanico falls outside and regroups with his Segundo while Lizmark waits in the ring. Back inside goes Satanico and Lizmark hits the dreaded Martinete causing Satanico to flop around shaking like he’s paralyzed, then he hits another one and Satanico shakes and seizes again. Two dropkicks in a row by Lizmark followed by a headscissors attempt but Satanico reverses it into a powerbomb and gets a three count to take the second fall.

Third fall starts with Satanico charging at Lizmark in the corner but he moves and rolls Satanico up for a two. Abdominal stretch by Lizmark but Satanico hiptosses him, sprints off the ropes and hits a senton for two. They criss cross again and Lizmark hits two flying body blocks and covers for a two. They struggle to their feet and Lizmark rolls him up with a bridge for another two. Another rollup attempt by Satanico now and another kickout. Lizmark throws him into the corner and goes in but Satanico ducks and Lizmark goes out then hits a huge crossbody off the top for a big nearfall that gets the fans buzzing. Satanico goes for a big spear but Lizmark moves and Satanico spills to the floor, then Lizmark goes up top and hits a nice plancha on Satanico. Back inside, another flying body block by Lizmark gets a two count and the two of them are dead exhausted laying in the ring. Satanico locks up on a quebradora de caballo but Lizmark rolls through and covers Satanico for two as the fans begin to chant Lizmark’s name. Back up, two dropkicks by Lizmark and he locks on a surfboard then flips Satanico all the way over onto his shoulders and Satanico pins Lizmark’s shoulders down for the three count to retain the belt. These two had a great technical match though the finish was a little flat.

4. Halcon Ortiz vs. Cien Caras – Beginning only

The DVD footage only features the beginning of this match. Halcon starts out by doing a promo in his corner and he’s wearing the same banana yellow color trunks that Mocho Cota wore but he has a white cape as well, looking like quite the man. The two of them lock up and grapple all the way out of the ring and then get back in and lock up some more as the tape runs out.

F.I.S.T. (Chuck Taylor & Johnny Gargano) vs. Atlantis and Rey Bucanero

This match caught my eye on paper as a big lucha fan, with the opportunity to see two mainstays like Atlantis and Rey Bucanero facing two of the better young guns on the U.S. independent circuit today in Chuck Taylor and Johnny Gargano.

F.I.S.T. comes out first and it is announced that their “scheduled opponents”, Beer Money, are not in the building. They decide to pull names out of a hat, and the first name is Giant Bernard & Karl Anderson, who are not there. Then they pull out Atlantis & Rey Bucanero, who the crowd reacts to lightly and the two of them come out to a modest reaction. Rey starts out with Chuck doing some work on the mat and the two seem to have a little miscommunication at first with Rey not going over for a headlock takeover right away and looking a little hesitant. Chuck tags out and Gargano is in with Atlantis now, who works Johnny’s left knee over and then almost gets an early submission from Gargano with an armbar. Gargano gets up favoring the left knee and left elbow and Atlantis goes to work with punches to the arm and then a hammerlock, but Gargano takes him over with a wristlock. Atlantis hits the ropes but Taylor kicks him in the back and Gargano takes control. 2 on 1 beatdown on Atlantis and F.I.S.T. is in control of the contest early. Double big boot by F.I.S.T. sends Atlantis out and Bucanero hops in but gets a quebradora from Taylor followed by a running knee from Johnny on a propped up Rey. Taylor distracts the ref while Gargano chokes Rey in the corner and Taylor then knocks Atlantis off the apron. F.I.S.T. runs at the same time into the corner on Rey but he puts up the boots and Atlantis comes off the top with a double plancha. Double irish whip into the ropes and stereo quebradoras by the tecnicos. Snapmare and knee to the head by Atlantis on Gargano. Atlantis makes the rudos run into each other and then hits a big hiptoss and then quebradora on Taylor followed by a knee to the back and then tags out. Springboard elbow by Bucanero on Taylor and the two of them trade shots in the middle of the ring. Slingshot spear by Gargano takes Rey down and they start going at it. Slingshot by Atlantis on Gargano followed by a great corkscrew by Rey onto a prone Gargano draped across Atlantis’ knees for a two count. Clothesline in the corner and bulldog out by Gargano on Rey but Atlantis is in now. Running crossbody by Atlantis for two and then a big bodyslam for another two count. Atlantis clotheslines Taylor out and then slingshots Bucanero over the ropes for a tope con giro in a cool spot. Atlantis and Gargano are the last two in the ring as the ref attends to the other two on the outside and Gargano pulls an awesome move out of the CMLL playbook by going down and faking a low blow which gets the tecnicos disqualified and F.I.S.T. wins.

This was a fun match, definitely enjoyable as a lucha fan and as a fan of both members of F.I.S.T. It was cool seeing Bucanero and Atlantis interact with some younger U.S. indy guys and they managed to make a good match out of it. I liked the DQ finish as it put F.I.S.T. over as big rudos and didn’t discredit Atlantis and Bucanero for a possible return down the line. The only problem I had with the match was the lukewarm reaction of the crowd; one has to figure that Atlantis and Bucanero was something they pulled together at the last minute, because they could’ve certainly advertised them and gotten some more fans who know who they are and could welcome them with a good reaction to the U.S. All in all a good match though and I applaud CHIKARA for doing something like this.

CMLL Sin Piedad 2010 Review

12/3/2010 – Arena Mexico – Mexico City, Mexico

CMLL’s big end of the year show from 2010, with a mask vs. mask showdown between two minis and a big cabellera vs. cabellera showdown between two feuding veterans, Rey Bucanero and Mr. Aguila, in the main event of the evening that ultimately failed to deliver.

1. Dark Angel, Luna Mágica, Marcela vs. Estrellita, Mima Shimoda, Tiffany

As far as the entrances go, Mima Shimoda looks like she’s wearing a dress made out of grey Sham Wow cloths or something, Tiffany and Estrellita want you to know that the best part of being a woman is the prerogative to have a little fun, and I think Estrellita’s gimmick is that she’s a racecar driver or a pit crew member. Marcela and Mima start out, and Marcela works the leg until Tiffany and Estrellita run in to break up a standing leglock, then Tiffany and Dark Angel take over and Tiffany hits an Edge-o-matic on Angel. Angel hits an alright springboard headscissors into a few armdrags and sends Tiffany out so Luna and Estrellita jump in. They have a pretty sloppy exchange and Luna hits a bulldog that sends Estrellita out. Luna then does a somersault to the floor and hits Estrellita with a ridiculous X-Factor on the floor. Inside the ring, Dark Angel hits a frankensteiner on Tiffany and Mima gets german suplexed by Marcela for the first fall. In the second fall, Marcela comes off the top to hit Estrellita with a missile dropkick and sends her to the outside. Dark Angel comes in and hits Mima with a shoulder tackle and crossbody for two. Dropick by Dark Angel sends Mima to the outside but Tiffany and Estrellita jump in for a two on one. The ring fills up as the rudas start to take over and Tiffany hits an Iconoclasm off the top for the pin on Angel. Third fall begins and all six women are brawling in the ring. The rudas isolate Dark Angel and pull on her hair, and then send her in for a double spinebuster and a kick to the back of her head from Mima. Triple team facebuster on Luna Magica as the rudas continue the beatdown but Dark Angel and Marcela run in to even the odds and clear the ring. The rudas huddle on the outside but Dark Angel goes to the top rope and dives to the outside in the most impressive spot of the match. Estrellita comes off the top into the ring on Luna and then hits her with a big boot for the cover, but Luna reverses the pin and gets a small package for the pin in a finish out of nowhere that the fans booed. Really a typical women’s trios match, not worth going out of your way to see.

2. Delta, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs. Euforia, Pólvora, Sangre Azteca

Valiente and Sangre start out trading holds on the ground and Valiente hits an awesome looking somersault roll into single leg takedown. Sangre locks Valiente in a standing full nelson, then an abdominal stretch into a pinfall for a two, then the two exchange holds until Sangre finds the ropes on a Valiente ankle lock style submission. They continue to exchange some average looking matwork and then tag in Stuka and Polvora. They each sweep each other’s legs and go for the pin a couple times and then face off in the middle of the ring. Stuka shoots Polvora into the ropes, hits an armdrag and then a snapmare and rear chinlock. They roll around a bit and Stuka sends Polvora out with an armdrag. Delta and Euforia are in and they run the ropes a bit doing reversals until Euforia messes up a tiltawhirl slam on Delta. Headscissors by Delta sends Euforia outside and Valiente runs in to hit his awesome springboard moonsault to the outside. Delta hits a brutal looking powerslam on Sangre and Stuka comes off the top with the torpedo splash for the first fall. Second fall begins with Sangre beating down Stuka and chopping him against the ropes. Stuka does the Mistico style rebound off the ropes but Sangre hits him with a superkick in an awesome spot. Sangre goes outside, Stuka baseball slides and misses but then hits Sangre with the tiltawhirl backbreaker. Inside, Polvora and Valiente exchange chops and Valiente knocks Polvora down with a huge chop. Valiente hits Polvora with a back body drop and then springboards from the second to top rope and comes off with a great looking headscissors. Valiente is probably one of the smoothest flyers in CMLL and he really makes moves like that look easy, especially for a guy with his size. Valiente ducks a Sangre dropkick, runs in to the corner and hops up but gets crotched by Sangre and a brawl breaks out in the ring. Seated dropkick in the corner to Valiente’s groin by Sangre and the rudos are just beating down the tecnicos now. Polvora is up top and hits a dominator from the second rope on Stuka, and Delta goes for a springboard hurricarana but gets powerbombed by Euforia for the second fall. The tercera caida begins with the rudos taking turns splashing Stuka in the corner and Sangre runs in with another huge dropkick to the groin. Valiente is next and gets sent to the ropes and spinebustered by Polvora followed by a dropkick off the second rope by Sangre on Valiente. Delta is then held up by the rudos and chopped until Euforia runs the ropes and gets tripped by the two other tecnicos on the outside and pulled out. Valiente hits the ropes and hits a monkey flip on Sangre followed by a dropkick to the legs of a running Polvora and Delta comes off the top with a headscissors to Euforia. Asai moonsault by Delta on two rudos on the outside and Stuka hits his torpedo plancha on the outside to the other. Back in the ring, Valiente springboards but gets dropkicked by Sangre who covers him, only to be pulled off by his partner Polvora who tries to cover him on his own but gets locked in a cradle to finish the match as Stuka hits a rollup on Sangre.

3. La Mascara, La Sombra, Hijo del Fantasma vs. Averno, Mephisto, Ephesto

The rudos enter last and the tecnicos meet them at the top of the ramp to start the match. Ephesto throws Sombra in the ring and Mephisto throws Fantasma in the ring. The rudos and Fantasma are in the ring alone and Mephisto/Averno hit a double back elbow on Fantasma. Mephisto slaps him around and Averno knocks Sombra off the apron with a kick right to his eye. Irish whip by Averno and Mephisto hiptosses Fantasma over the ropes onto the ramp. The focus changes to Mascara as he gets beat down in the corner and then whipped to the ropes. Averno and Mephisto run alongside Mascara while he’s hitting the ropes, trip him up, and pull him out of the ring slamming him super hard against the floor onto his hands and knees. They focus on Sombra now, Ephesto spinebusters him and then hits the ropes while the others drag him to the outside and prop him up for a dropkick from Averno that slams him to the floor. Fantasma stumbles back in and gets beaten down and dragged to the top rope where Mephisto tears at his mask and then drops him into the tree of woe for a kick to the face. Triple big boot to Fantasma followed by the awesome triple dive fake with all the rudos posing. Mascara gets whipped into the corner, but comes out with a headscissors on Mephisto and Sombra hits a springboard headscissors on Ephesto. Fantasma sprints down the ramp, leaps over and hits an awesome tornado DDT on Averno that sends him to the outside and follows that with a headscissors to Mephisto that sends him to the outside followed by a tope. Inside, La Campana on Averno by Mascara for the three count as the tecnicos fight back to win the first fall.

Sombra starts out the first fall with Ephesto and handsprings towards him only to get kicked over the ropes by Averno who then celebrates on the middle ropes like a true rudo. Sombra runs to Averno who throws him up in the air only for Sombra to headscissors Ephesto and then hit a springboard headscissors on Averno too. Fantasma, with a half torn mask, faces off with Mephisto. They run the ropes and Mephisto slides out to avoid Fantasma so Ephesto and Mascara are back in. Ropes sequence and then Mascara sends Ephesto out with a headscissors and Averno runs in for a sunset flip on Mascara but he rolls out and hits a dropkick to cover Averno for the two. Mascara runs at Averno who ducks and drops him to the apron, but Mascara kicks him in the face from the apron and hits a diving armdrag followed by a backflipping armdrag that sends Averno out. Mephisto is in with Fantasma finally and their feud boils over as Mephisto tackles him and lays into him with punches to the point where Averno finally pulls him off and holds him back. Fantasma comes back though and takes down the two to face off with Mephisto again. They brawl and Fantasma gets Mephisto down and rips his entire mask off. Sombra is in with a springboard twisting plancha on Averno and sends him out with a beautiful springboard headscissors to land on his feet. Diving headscissors from Mascara off the apron to Averno, tope suicida by Ephesto and a suicide tornillo by Sombra on all 3. Mephisto and Fantasma are fighting again in the ring and Mephisto powerbombs him, pulls his mask off, and celebrates with it on the top rope, though he really shouldn’t be celebrating because the referee calls for the DQ on Mephisto and the tecnicos win the second straight fall. This was a pretty good match, definitely the best of the show so far, with a good story involving Mephisto and Hijo del Fantasma with the slow build to Mascara vs. Averno as well.

4. Mascara vs. Mascara – Pequeño Warrior vs. Electrico

Warrior has an awesome dancing entrance that I’ll probably try to imitate later. Angel de Oro is the segundo for Electrico and Pequeño Olimpico is the segundo for Warrior. They go back and forth and Warrior starts the advantage with a big running clothesline. Electrico gets dumped outside through the ropes but skins the cat and hits a big reverse headscissors on Warrior that looks great. They stand around for a few seconds as Warrior holds his jaw, maybe getting knocked a little loopy on the spot before. Electrico pulls at his mask but gets knocked away and Warrior continues to pummel him down. Powerbomb into the turnbuckle by Warrior and he locks in a bow and arrow type submission on Electrico who submits to end the first fall.

Second fall, Warrior runs at Electrico and clotheslines him over the ropes and goes with him onto the ramp outside. Warrior slams Electrico’s head against the apron of the ring a few times and throws him in the ring. They trade moves in the ring for a while and Warrior drops Electrico with a cool looking delayed headscissors but Electrico rolls through and puts Warrior in a cradle pin for the second fall.

Third fall starts and Electrico has Warrior down on the mat and rips off the top part of his mask. They both hit the ropes and end up in the corner where Electrico gives Warrior a frankensteiner. They face off in the center, Warrior gets dropped to the outside and Electrico hits a perfect tope con giro on Warrior and Pequeño Olimpico on the outside. Electrico hops back up on the apron and hits an asai moonsault knocking Warrior down again. Back inside, beautiful springboard crossbody by Electrico for a two count. Really sloppy La Magistral by Electrico for a two count and Warrior gets the ropes. Warrior gets Electrico down and starts working the left arm with elbows and then headbutts followed by a northern lights and a german suplex for two consecutive two counts. Olimpico trips up Electrico as he hits the ropes and holds him in a wheelbarrow position for an awesome legdrop over the top rope by Warrior. Back in the ring and Warrior gets another two count. Warrior hits a spinning uranage into a pin and Electrico gets a foot on the ropes. They run the ropes again and Electrico does the dropkick to the knees and then locks on a surfboard that Warrior taps to and Electrico wins. Angel de Oro walks around with Electrico on his shoulders as Pequeño Warrior unmasks with his family in the ring. This was an okay match. Warrior looked really good but Electrico had some difficulties, especially trying to do the move advanced holds and submissions and it hurt the match at times.

5. Latino (Latin Lover), Místico, Shocker, Strong Man vs. Atlantis (with ZACARIAS), Felino, Héctor Garza, Negro Casas

Since Zacarias is here this match is already potentially the best on the show. Garza hides behind the wall for Latino’s entrance and jumps him from behind as everyone else is fighting in the ring. Místico is the last to enter and gets the biggest reaction of the night so far. Atlantis meets him at the bottom of the stairs and the two of them brawl outside the ring as the first fall begins. The rudos basically beat down the tecnicos for the entire first fall and get called for the foul for not letting up on the tecnicos.

Second fall begins and the rudos are beating down Místico in the ring. Flapjack by Garza and he kicks Mistico right in the face and sends him outside. Strongman is in and he cleans house of the rudos until Negro Casas does the dreaded eye poke to cut him off. This is why Negro Casas rules so much. Strongman powers back until ZACARIAS tries to hit him with a frying pan. Strongman stops, stares at Zacarias, and breaks the handle off of the pan. Poor Zacarias responds by hanging his head in shame and leaving the ring. At least Strongman had the decency to not beat up el perico. Strongman blocks a double suplex and reverses it into one of his own and tags in Latino. Latino and Garza face off in the battle of the beefcakes and Latino slaps him right in the face. Garza slaps him right back and sends him down. Latino chops Garza against the ropes which gets a WOO out of the crowd but Garza runs the ropes and hits a clothesline. Latino dumps Garza outside and goes for a dive but evil Tirantes trips him, so Latino runs again and jumps over him with a tope con giro onto Garza. Mistico is in with Casas and they trade kicks in the middle of the ring until Casas gets knocked down with a superkick. Felino, understandably angry with Místico after he took his mask, runs in and clotheslines Místico. Double crossbody handspring by Mistico on both and then armdrag and headscissors to both to send them outside followed by an amazing springboard tornillo on the two. Atlantis is in with Shocker now, spinebuster on Atlantis to send him out and Felino is in. They end up outside with all three and Strongman wipes them out with a plancha. Tope by Mistico onto Negro Casas outside and a sitout powerbomb by Latino on Garza for a very slow three count by Tirantes to give the second fall and the win to the tecnicos.

This was a really fun match due to all those involved and stands next to the Averno/Mascara trios as match of the night.

6. Cabellera vs. Cabellera – Mr. Aguila vs. Rey Bucanero

Tirantes is the ref for the second consecutive match so you know he is going to play a big part in this as the rudo douchebag ref. Aguila jumps Rey on his way to the ring and throws him head first into the post to start the match. Big clothesline by Aguila on the inside for a one count. Bucanero starts to fight back but Tirantes gets in his way and Aguila cuts him off. Hiptoss over the ropes onto the ramp by Bucanero and he follows him out. Aguila drags him by the hair and kicks him in the back repeatedly on the ramp and just throws him back in. Off the ropes, leg drop by Aguila for a quick two count. Aguila starts choking out Bucanero with his leather vest as Tirantes turns the other way, and Aguila tosses him out again but Rey jumps right back in and dropkicks Aguila out. Bucanero runs and hits a big tope con giro even though Tirantes makes an effort to trip him. Back in the ring, Rey whips Aguila in, tucks his legs through the ropes and gives him a backcracker but Tirantes chooses to wipe his shoes off instead of count and the fans are beginning to whistle at this point because frankly this is just getting tired already. Bucanero grabs Tirantes by the collar and Aguila rolls him up for a quick three count. The biggest rudo in the match at this point is Tirantes, and an official from the lucha commission comes into the ring and tells him that he has to leave to the roaring approval of Arena Mexico. The official runs Tirantes off to the back and a different ref is sent out.

Second fall starts, finally, with a new ref, finally, and they take turns chopping each other in the corner. Spin kick by Aguila knocks Bucanero down followed by an ugly headscissors and another kick. Sloppy enziguri by Rey sends Aguila against the ropes, followed by another, and he runs at him only to take a HIGH back drop to the outside followed by a tope con giro by Aguila. In the ring two count on Bucanero and a standing moonsault by Aguila for another, some stalling, and a leg drop for another two count. Aguila goes for a senton over the ropes from the ramp but Bucanero ducks and rolls him in an inside cradle for the second fall.

Third fall starts and they’re going to have to do a lot better to win the crowd back at this point. Aguila starts this one off poorly by going for a springboard but losing his balance and just jumping back into the ring. They mess up the timing on clothesline over the ropes spot and now it just looks awkward. Plancha off the top rope to the outside by Bucanero and the crowd is pretty quiet at this point compared to the last match. Suplex into the ring turned into a messy cradle by Bucanero for a two count and Aguila goes for a crucifix pin on Bucanero who takes a while to flip over but finally does for a two count. Aguila sends Rey outside and hits a huge tope con giro over the ring post in the best spot of the match so far. Cavernaria in the ring by Bucanero but Aguila slips out, and Bucanero slaps the mat to try to rally the fans. Running the ropes again, double crossbody and both men are down. Repeated clotheslines by Aguila but Bucanero refuses to go down and finally hits a big one of his own to send Aguila down. Rey goes for a hurricarana but Aguila powerbombs him for a two count. Aguila hits a springboard with the wristlock and powerslams Rey down, following it up with a great moonsault for the two count. Essa Rios/Mr. Aguila has always had one of my favorite moonsaults so that definitely helps this match. Second moonsault attempt but Rey puts his feet up and rolls him up for a two count. Bucanero runs at Aguila on the ramp now and Agula hits a crazy Spanish fly on the ramp that did not look fun to take. They follow that up with a two second shot of a kid in the crowd who literally could not look more bored. Back in the ring, spin kick by Aguila sends Rey down and now there are really loud boos and people are whistling a ton. Back up, powerbomb attempt by Aguila, Rey tries to spin out of it and just falls down, then stands back up and hits a Canadian Destroyer for the three count to end this debacle of a match. There were times where it looked like they were going to pull it out but it was just really sloppy. I don’t know if Bucanero was injured but he messed up more than a few spots in this and didn’t look like his normal self at all. I watched these guys have a match at PWG Kurt RussellReunion 2 that was much better than this. Afterwards, Zacarias celebrates in the confetti with Bucanero as Aguila gets his gigantic red mohawk cut off.

Overall this is a skippable show unless you are a pretty big lucha fan. Matches 2, 3, and 5 are worth tracking down if you’re a fan of those involved and the rest of the show is really underwhelming, especially the main event which was just a mess.
